Carlyle announces hoops signing class

MORRISTOWN, Tenn. – Veteran Walters State men’s basketball coach Bill Carlyle is used to rebuilding his squad each season due to the turnover of players every two years in the junior college ranks.

WSCC adds new basketball coaches

MORRISTOWN, Tenn. – The Walters State men’s basketball program has a new assistant coach, as veteran head coach Bill Carlyle has announced the hiring of Paul Daniels as a full-time assistant for the 2010-11 season. Carlyle also announced that former Senator player Kyle Donahue has joined the staff in a part-time role.

Smokies finish season with 3-2 win

ZEBULON, N.C. – The Tennessee Smokies finished the 2010 regular season with a 3-2 victory over the Carolina Mudcats on Monday afternoon at Five County Stadium.

Maryville volleyball Scots rebound

MARYVILLE – The Maryville College Scots volleyball program rebounded from a tough first day of their 2010 MC Invitational to split their match results on Sunday. The Volley Scots defeated Lynchburg College (3-1) by the scores of 25-19, 22-25, 25-23, and 25-22. MC fell in the tournament finale (3-0) to No. 4 ranked Emory University. The Eagles outpaced the Scots 25-18, 25-14, and 25-14.
 
Against the Hornets, All-tournament selection Teri Lind posted 19 assists and nine digs. Kristin Findley threw down a match high 15 kills while recording a double-double with 18 digs. Kara Strickland finished with 8 kills and 19 digs. Katherine Nadler led the defensive surge with 20 digs. Lynchburg was led by Rachel Huffman’s 14 kills.
 
Maryville saw Emory connect on 32% of their attacks to record 43 kills. All-Tournament selection Breanah Borque finished with 13 kills while Tournament MVP Amelia McCall added 12 kills and 13 digs. MC was led by Kara Strickland’s nine kills and eight digs.
 
Emory claimed the 2010 Tournament title with a 4-0 weekend mark.

Smokies win second straight over Mudcats

ZEBULON, N.C. – The Tennessee Smokies earned their second straight victory over the Carolina Mudcats, winning 3-2 on Sunday evening at Five County Stadium.
