Gov unveils Clean Energy Future act

NASHVILLE – Governor Phil Bredesen and a bipartisan group of legislators, joined by members of the Governor’s Task Force on Energy Policy, today unveiled sweeping new legislation designed to make the Volunteer State a national leader in energy efficiency and clean energy technology.

Sevier third in East TN for teen pregnancies

SEVIER COUNTY, TN – A recent report from the Tennessee Department of Health shows Sevier County having the third highest rate of pregnancies for females aged 10-17 in East Tennessee. Sevier’s rate of 14.3 per 1,000 births in 2007 falls just slightly below Jefferson County’s rate of 14.6 and Monroe’s 16.5 percent.

Softball Scots sweep Wesleyan

MARYVILLE – The Maryville College softball team moved to 3-1 in Great South Athletic Conference action after defeating Wesleyan College 7-1, 3-1 on Monday afternoon in Macon, Georgia.

Sevier library book clubs meet in April

SEVIER COUNTY, TN. The Sevier County Public Library System offers a variety of book clubs to interest readers of many interests.  The SCPLS Main Library Fireside Book Club enjoys books of a more contemporary, eclectic view. The SCPLS Inspirational Reading Club focuses on an inspirational author and his or her works each month instead of a specific book. The SCPLS Kodak Branch Literary Classics Book Club discusses previous and more recent classics.

WSCC golf team in 14th place

LONDON, Ky. — The Walters State golf team sits in 14th place in the Southeastern Kentucky Intercollegiate golf tournament at Crooked Creek Golf Course after firing an opening round 314 (+26) Monday.
