Clay shoot for CF raises over $137k

SEVIER COUNTY – For the seventh consecutive year, Vulcan Materials Company has sponsored the Make a Break Thru for CF Sporting Clays tournament.   This year, one of Vulcan’s regular volunteers, Danny Sisk, Plant Manager at Clarksville, advised Cure Finders that his son had been diagnosed with cystic fibrosis.

Bottles for Babies kicks off May 10

SEVIERVILLE – The  10th annual Bottles for Babies fundraiser for the Women’s Care Center in Sevierville kicks off May 10 and lasts until June 21. Director Debbie Norris says 2008 was a busy year for the center and the funds to continue services are much-needed.

Park fires update: management changes

GREAT SMOKY MOUNTAINS NATIONAL PARK – Effective today, management of the Laurel Falls II fire just west of Gatlinburg, TN and the Stony Ridge Fire just north of Cherokee, NC has been transferred to an Interagency Incident Management Team (IIMT), according to Bob Miller, management assistant for the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. The IIMT specializes in directing and providing logistical support to large incidents, especially fires. An official IIMT report today stated that the Stony Ridge fire was 50 percent contained and the Laurel Falls fire was 25 percent contained.

Collavo honored: Arbor Day in Gatlinburg

GATLINBURG – The City of Gatlinburg and Pi Beta Phi Elementary School planted a flowering dogwood in honor of National Park Service volunteer coordinator Babette Collavo to highlight the City’s annual Arbor Day Celebration Tuesday.
