lerulli announces football commitments

MARYVILLE, TN - Maryville College Head Football Coach Tony Ierulli has announced that 59 new players have committed to put on the orange and garnet for the Scots during the 2009 season. The graduation of 24 players would be a concern to many, but MC’s coaching staff is excited about the upcoming fall. “We return our play makers,” stated Coach Ierulli. “Our offensive and defensive lines lose a great deal of experience, but I look forward to seeing what our talented and athletic younger players can do.”

WSCC prof honored with Plattner award

MORRISTOWN – A Walters State Community College professor has been honored with a prestigious award for work appearing in “Appalachian Heritage.”

Hospital volunteers honored by FSSMC

SEVIERVILLE – Lifetime Membership is an honorary award bestowed upon Fort Sanders Sevier Medical Center (FSS) Volunteers who have achieved specific milestones and demonstrated exemplary performance during their Volunteer service.  The FSS Volunteer Executive Team annually reviews the award criteria and approves the honorary designation for the Volunteers who meet the criteria. The Executive Team is pleased to report that the following three members have been awarded Lifetime Membership and thanks each for their valued contributions.

Sevier youth attend annual 4-H event

by Glenn Turner, Sevier County Extension agent.  For the 86th year, 4-H members from across Tennessee gathered at the University of Tennessee, Martin for State 4-H Roundup and All Star Conference. The annual event, which took place July 20-24, recognized the outstanding project work and leadership accomplishments of senior high 4-H members.

AVCA awards Volleyball Scots

LEXINGTON, Ky.  – The American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) announced today that 409 teams have earned the AVCA Team Academic Award for the 2008-2009 season. This number once again eclipses the previous years’ total of 354 and sets a new all-time high for this award. The Maryville College Scots, coached by Kandis Schram, were honored by this program as the squad posted an amazing 3.45 cumulative grade point average for the 2008-09 academic year.
