Tribute to Knoxville bluesman McGhee Nov 30
KNOXVILLE, TN. The recently formed Tennessee Valley Blues & Heritage Foundation will sponsor a performance by Labron Lazenby & LA3 at Preservation Pub on Market Square on Monday, November 30, in honor of Blues great Brownie McGhee who was born in Knoxville on that date in 1915. The performance will take place from 7:00 to 10:00 pm.
The Tennessee Valley Blues & Heritage Foundation (TVBHF) was formed this year because of the perceived need for the preservation of the Blues heritage of the Tennessee Valley and the promotion of Blues artists in the area that are performing today. TVBHF board member Michael “Bluegill” Gill says: “The Tennessee Valley is widely known and promoted as the cradle of country music, bluegrass, mountain music, and Americana, and getting lost in all that is the fact that we have a very significant and important Blues heritage that extends into the present.”
In addition to paying tribute to Brownie McGhee, the event at Preservation Pub will serve as a fundraiser for the new Foundation which has applied for federal 501(c)3 non-profit status and a showcase of Labron Lazenby & LA3, who are generally recognized as this area’s most prominent Blues band. Admission to the event is free, and donations to the Tennessee Valley Blues & Heritage Foundation are welcome.
