Don Richmond performs free concert Dec 6
PIGEON FORGE, TN - Internationally known recording artist Donny Richmond, who makes his home in Pigeon Forge, will perform a Free Christmas Concert at Henderson Chapel Baptist Church, Pigeon Forge, on Sunday, Dec. 6. Richmond, who since 2006 has enjoyed #1 chart successes in more than 10 countries, has again reached #1 on the Charts in Europe, this time with his new Christmas release. The song; “That’s What Christmas Means”, was written by Donny with Nashville associates David Walker and Randy Smith. In it’s first week of release Nov. 6, the song went directly to the top spot being chosen by radio programmers throughout Europe as the top new Christmas single for 2009. Donny will perform this and a collection of Christmas favorites at the Concert.
“That’s What Christmas Means” was part of a series of history making recording sessions which feature Donny backed by some of the most legendary musicians of all time. This includes members of the Gospel Music, Country Music, and Rock ‘n’ Roll Halls Of Fame. Donny is a recipient of the Living Legend Award from the Country Gospel Music Association, and has 6 times been awarded Entertainer Of The Year. Legendary saxophone player Boots Randolph, who passed away last year, gave one of his final (and finest) performances on the song. Other featured musicians included James Burton; legendary guitarist for Elvis Presley during the 1970’s, and world famous backup singers The Jordanaires.
Radio hits are only the beginning of the current International success of “local boy” Donny Richmond. Donny’s Christmas TV Special, produced for America, and aired Nationally in the U.K., Europe, Canada, and Australia, will now also air in Caribbean countries, South Pacific Islands, Mediterranean countries, New Zealand and Africa. This makes Donny’s Program the most widely aired Christmas TV Special by any independent American Artist for 2009.
Asked if he’s planning to tour some of these countries, Donny says; “ I’d rather be at home in Sevier County”. He adds; “I love being with my family, and serving at our church. These are treasures money can’t buy, and as they say, if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it”. Donny is Music Minister at Henderson Chapel Baptist Church. The church, a “little country church”, and one of the oldest and most historic in Sevier County, is experiencing noteworthy growth, and it’s TV Program; “Donny Richmond of Henderson Chapel” on WVLR-TV 48 was enthusiastically received by TV audiences during 2009.
