Lady Senators drop one to Lady Eagles
DUNWOODY, Ga. – The fifth-ranked Walters State Lady Senators saw their 46-game regular season winning streak come to an end Saturday afternoon at the hands of the Tallahassee (Fla.) Lady Eagles in a thrilling 66-65 decision in the Lady Jaguar Thanksgiving Classic played at Georgia Perimeter College.
The Lady Senators (6-1) held a lead in the final minute, but a late basket by the Lady Eagles (7-2) and a free throw in the final seconds gave Tallahassee their second win of the season against a top-five team.
Tyesha Robinson and Ashley White each tossed in 20 points to lead the Lady Eagles, who made 25 of 47 shot from the field in the win.
The Lady Senators finished the game shooting 43.1 percent (22 of 51) from the floor, while making 3 of 7 from long range. They also outrebounded the Lady Eagles 35-27.
Patrice Talley led Walters State with 16 points and six boards in the contest, while LaKrystle Goss added 14 points, six steals and four assists. Melanie Hemphill netted 13 points in the loss.
The Lady Senators will return to action Friday, Dec. 5, when they travel to Columbia for a TCCAA showdown with Columbia State. Tipoff inside the Webster Fieldhouse is scheduled for 7 p.m. Eastern time.
