Happy Hour for a Cure with Dirty Guv’nahs
KNOXVILLE – The entire Knoxville community is invited to support the fight to find a cure for diabetes by attending the Happy Hour 4 a Cure on Thursday, April 30th at the Square Room in Knoxville. The event will include an acoustic performance beginning at 5:30pm, prior to Sundown in the city; the main act, The Dirty Guv’nahs, will take the stage at 9:30pm, following Sundown.

Proceeds from the evening will benefit the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) through their Ride to Cure Diabetes program. JDRF was founded in 1970 by the parents of children with diabetes to help raise funds to support research to find a cure for diabetes and it complications. The organization prides itself on efficiency as 85 cents of every dollar raises goes directly to research.
Local Knoxvillians, Andrew and Jessica Shafer, will be riding in JDRF’s Sonoma, California event on June 27th. Andrew has battled diabetes for 11 years which is why they formed The Shafer Ten Year Team. The ride is a one day, 105 mile bike ride to raise money to find a cure for diabetes and its complications. The April 30th event at the Square Room is designed to work in conjunction with Sundown in the city raise money for research but also to help raises awareness about diabetes in our community. Over $280 billion is spent each year in the US alone on diabetes healthcare.
